Migrant boat collision in Sardinia

Overview

A 17-year-old tourist was seriously injured near Su Giudeu beach in Chia, Sardinia, after being struck by a fiberglass vessel while on a stand-up paddleboard. The boat, powered by an 85-horsepower outboard motor, was carrying 14 undocumented Algerian men.

Following the collision, the pilot allegedly attempted to evade authorities by heading toward Tuerredda beach to land the passengers. Carabinieri and police intercepted the vessel, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old Algerian man. He faces charges of aiding illegal immigration and causing very serious personal injury.

The victim was airlifted to Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari under ‘Codice Rosso’ (red code) emergency status. While her condition was initially reported as critical, medical staff later indicated that the immediate threat to her life had passed.
