Italy endures nationwide transport strikes throughout July 2026

A series of coordinated labour actions will disrupt Italy’s transport network for much of July 2026. On 5 July, airport staff, ENAV controllers and EasyJet crews strike, leading to the cancellation of 36 flights from Milan Malpensa and 20 from Milan Linate. Additional walkouts affect ground‑handling firms, security personnel at Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino, and FedEx staff at Malpensa.

Rail services face multiple stoppages: a 24‑hour strike by Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal on 6‑7 July, regional RFI actions in Palermo on 7 July, and a national Italo high‑speed strike on 9‑10 July that may cause cancellations on Turin‑Milan‑Rome‑Naples routes. Local public transport also halts, with Autolinee Toscane suspending service in Florence on 5 July, AMTS in Catania on 6 July, and AMAT in Palermo on 11 July, among other city‑wide bus, tram and metro actions throughout the month.

Further disruptions are scheduled for 15 July (Elior onboard catering staff), 20 July (CSC Mobilità in Latina and a Florence bus strike), 21 July (cargo and logistics staff at Malpensa), and a final wave on 23‑24 July affecting the national railway sector. Passengers are advised to check ticket status, inquire about refunds or re‑booking, and be aware of EU passenger‑rights compensation for delayed or cancelled flights.
