Italy braces for week of nationwide strikes in early June

From 8 June to 14 June Italy will experience a series of coordinated strikes across multiple sectors. Lawyers have called a full‑week walk‑out in response to alleged illegal recordings of detainee interviews in Perugia. Local public‑transport operators in Sicily, Puglia and Emilia‑Romagna will suspend services on 8 June, while fire‑brigade staff, maritime workers and telecom employees strike on 9–10 June.

A major rail strike is scheduled for 11 June, halting long‑distance, regional and high‑speed services of Trenitalia, Trenord and Italo for eight hours (09:00‑17:00). Additional disruptions on that day include freight‑train bans, security staff walk‑outs, and strikes by public‑administration employees. On 12 June, national protests will involve local police, ministry staff and contractors of public‑administration bodies, extending the shutdown of many public services.

The widespread disruptions are expected to affect commuters, passengers, and the operation of airports and other essential services throughout the country.
