Italy coastal management: Environmental and consumer groups demand reforms

Environmental and consumer groups in Italy are raising concerns regarding the management and preservation of coastal areas. The association ‘Basta Plastica in Mare’ has criticized local authorities in Rimini, alleging that enduro motorcycle racing has turned beaches into tracks, damaging the local ecosystem and habitat.

Separately, Federconsumatori Emilia-Romagna has issued recommendations following the government's presentation of guidelines for maritime state property concessions. The consumer group is calling for transparent public tenders, affordable pricing for residents and families, and guaranteed free access to the shoreline. They also emphasized the need for environmental sustainability, including the reduction of single-use plastics and the removal of architectural barriers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
