Italy commemorates 800 years since the death of Saint Francis of Assisi

Various cultural and religious events are being organized across Italy to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

In Assisi, approximately 150 flower artists from Spello will create a large-scale floral arrangement titled ‘Nel segno del Tau, un Cantico di Pace’ on the lawn of the Basilica of Saint Francis. The event, which includes international dignitaries, will feature a composition of petals and leaves inspired by the Canticle of the Creatures.

In Arezzo, a major exhibition titled ‘L’immagine di Francesco – Dal Medioevo al Novecento’ is showcasing approximately 60 works by masters such as Botticelli and Vasari, including a recently restored piece by Santi di Tito.

Other commemorations include a musical concert by the Corale Santa Cecilia in Somma Lombardo featuring sacred music from various eras, and a historical and religious conference in Calabria focused on the Franciscan presence in the region.
