Chilivani massacre: Commemoration of Carabinieri Carru and Frau

Authorities and families gathered in Perde Sèmene, near Ozieri, to mark the 31st anniversary of the Chilivani massacre. The ceremony honored Carabinieri Ciriaco Carru and Walter Frau, who were killed on August 16, 1995.

The two officers, both recipients of the Gold Medal for Military Valor, died during a firefight with a criminal gang while attempting to prevent an assault on an armored cash van along the SS597 Sassari-Olbia highway. The incident began when the officers intercepted a stolen cement mixer used by the gang.

Local officials, including the Deputy Mayor of Ozieri and the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri, Colonel Antonio Maione, participated in the commemoration. Floral tributes were laid at the memorial plaques to honor the courage and sense of duty displayed by the officers during the confrontation.
