Italy hits cloud migration goal for 13,000 public agencies

Italy has completed the migration of more than 13,000 public administrations to qualified cloud environments, surpassing the 75 % threshold required under the EU‑aligned digital target of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr). The move involved over 280 central ministries and health bodies shifting to the National Strategic Pole and more than 12,700 local administrations and schools joining certified cloud platforms.

The programme, funded with up to €1.9 billion, is said to improve the quality and security of more than 135,000 digital public services for citizens and businesses. Sub‑secretary to the Presidency for Innovation Alessio Butti highlighted that the achievement places Italy among the EU’s most advanced nations in public‑data protection. The success was credited to coordinated efforts by the Department for Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Education, the National Cybersecurity Agency and the 13,000 participating administrations.
