Florence high-speed rail site accident kills worker
A fatal accident occurred at the construction site for the new Florence high-speed rail station, known as the Foster station, where a 31-year-old crane operator, Abourabil Ayoub, was killed. Initial reports indicate he was struck by a pillar that fell during unloading operations from a vehicle. Another worker was also seriously injured in the same incident.
In a separate incident in Bagnoli, a 53-year-old worker was hospitalized in serious condition after falling approximately seven meters from a scaffold during renovation work. Authorities are investigating the site to verify compliance with safety regulations.
These events highlight ongoing concerns regarding workplace safety in Italy. Labor unions, including UGL, have expressed condolences and called for stricter prevention measures and rigorous adherence to safety procedures. Regional data from the Vega Observatory indicates that Florence and its province have recorded 12 deaths related to work or commuting so far this year, contributing to a broader national discussion on occupational hazards.
