Italy digital terrestrial TV undergoes channel numbering update

Italy's digital terrestrial television platform is undergoing a significant reorganization of channel numbering (LCN) and technical updates. This transition involves major broadcasters including Rai, Mediaset, Cairo Communication, and Persidera, affecting both national multiplexes and specific DVB-T2 technologies.

The new numbering system prioritizes high-definition channels in the top positions: Rai 1 HD at channel 1, Rai 2 HD at 2, Rai 3 TGR Regione at 3, Rete4 HD at 4, Canale5 HD at 5, Italia1 HD at 6, LA7 HD at 7, TV8 HD at 8, and Nove at 9. Local broadcasters are assigned numbers 10 through 19, while other major channels like Rai 4, Iris HD, and Rai 5 occupy the 20s range.

Viewers may experience signal loss or “no signal” messages, particularly on older televisions or non-updated decoders. To restore service and access the new channel order, users are advised to perform a full automatic channel re-tuning (risintonizzazione). The update also includes new free-to-air content, such as the religious broadcaster Maria Visione on channel 255, and expanded regional services.
