Italy: Educators and community groups address peace and security

In Italy, educators and community organizers are addressing themes of peace, nonviolence, and social security. Teachers across the country are engaging in training to promote nonviolence and peace education in classrooms, acting as a form of cultural resistance against increasing nationalism and the influence of the arms industry in educational settings.

In Udine, the Enzo Piccinini Cultural Center and the Parco di Sant’Osvaldo association are hosting a public meeting titled ‘Why so much fear? The exhausting search for security’. The event aims to examine the origins of fear in contemporary society and how the concept of ‘security’ is constructed and communicated. Speakers include Marco Girardo, director of Avvenire, and Stefano Bardari, president of DonK ODV, with moderation by psychiatrist Marco Bertoli. The discussion seeks to distinguish between real threats and those amplified by media narratives to prevent social fractures.
