Italian peace and emotional education initiatives
Overview
In Italy, educators and community organizers have initiated efforts to promote peace, nonviolence, and emotional intelligence within the school system.
Initial activities focused on cultural resistance against nationalism and the influence of the arms industry. In Udine, public meetings were organized to examine the construction of ‘security’ and distinguish real threats from media-amplified narratives to prevent social fractures.
This movement has evolved into the establishment of formal educational networks. In Rome, the National Network for Emotional Education was presented at the Chamber of Deputies to facilitate teacher training and didactic innovation. Additionally, the “Rete umbra delle Scuole per la Pace” (Umbrian Network of Schools for Peace) was launched in the Umbria region, implementing programs from kindergarten through high school to foster dialogue and active citizenship.
