Italy enhances sustainable tourism through new mobility and transport initiatives

New initiatives in Italy are focusing on enhancing sustainable mobility and tourism accessibility. In Terlizzi, a new bike station has been inaugurated in Piazza Europa as part of the STEP – Puglia Imperiale Experience Pass bike-sharing service. This facility allows citizens and visitors to rent electric bicycles via a digital application, which also provides information on tourist itineraries, local events, and parking payments. The project connects Terlizzi to a network of thirteen municipalities to promote slow and sustainable tourism.

In Trieste, Trieste Trasporti and Federalberghi Trieste have launched a joint information campaign to improve public transport access for tourists. The initiative utilizes QR codes placed at hotel receptions, linking to the ‘Trieste Transport Guide’. This guide, available in multiple languages including Italian, English, and Slovenian, covers various mobility options such as bus tariffs, electronic tickets, the Opicina tram, bike sharing, and maritime services. The digital format allows for rapid updates to transport information, while physical copies are also being distributed through tourist points of interest.
