Italy expands breast cancer screening ages and funds molecular tests
(Adnkronos) – In the first year of the IncontraDonna Foundation’s “Commitment for Health 2025‑2027” manifesto, Italy has extended mammography screening to women aged 45‑49 and 70‑74 and approved a dedicated fund for Esr1 molecular tests for patients with metastatic breast cancer. The foundation presented these achievements at a meeting in Rome with health institutions, scientists, patient associations and other stakeholders.
Adriana Bonifacino, founder of IncontraDonna, highlighted that the measures implement provisions of the 2026 budget law, advance precision‑medicine access, oncogenetic testing and personalized prevention, and integrate nutrition into oncology pathways. Parliament has also adopted an agenda item to promote a dedicated PDTA for metastatic breast cancer within regional oncology networks. The initiative aims to improve equity of access, overcome territorial and socioeconomic barriers, and personalise care for women across Italy. Breast cancer remains the most frequent malignancy among Italian women, with more than 53,000 new diagnoses each year.
