Italy expands energy storage capacity through new projects and facilities

Italy is seeing significant advancements in energy storage infrastructure through new project acquisitions and industrial expansions. ZE Energy has acquired the Elena project in Puglia, a stand-alone battery storage facility with a capacity of 200 MW and over 1 GWh. This acquisition, sourced from British developer Aura Power, brings ZE Energy’s total stand-alone storage capacity in Italy to 300 MW. The project is designed to provide over six hours of discharge duration to help integrate renewable energy into the southern Italian grid.

Simultaneously, Energy Dome has inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Piacenza, representing a strategic step in the industrialization of its proprietary CO2 Battery technology. The company has invested approximately 2 million euros in the site so far, with plans to reach a total investment of 6.5 million euros over the next two years to triple production capacity. The facility serves as a central manufacturing hub for components used in international projects across India, the United States, and Ireland.
