Italy energy storage infrastructure expansion
Overview
Italy is expanding its energy storage infrastructure through both project acquisitions and industrial manufacturing developments.
ZE Energy acquired the Elena project in Puglia from British developer Aura Power. This standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) provides 200 MW of capacity and over 1 GWh of storage, with a discharge duration exceeding six hours. This acquisition increases ZE Energy’s total standalone storage capacity in Italy to 300 MW.
In addition to battery storage projects, Energy Dome has opened a new manufacturing plant in Piacenza to industrialize its proprietary CO2 Battery technology. The company has invested approximately 2 million euros in the site, with plans to reach a total investment of 6.5 million euros over two years to triple production capacity. This facility will serve as a hub for components used in projects across India, the United States, and Ireland.
