Italy weather: unseasonably warm temperatures under high pressure

Italy is experiencing a period of unseasonably warm and stable weather due to a dominant high-pressure system. Throughout late September and the beginning of October, many regions are seeing temperatures well above seasonal averages, with some areas reaching between 25°C and 31°C. This anticyclonic block has provided sunny skies and dry conditions across much of the peninsula, including locations like Como, Pisa, Rome, and Crotone.

However, meteorological models indicate a potential shift in weather patterns. A significant change is expected between October 8 and October 15, when the high-pressure system may weaken, allowing Atlantic currents and cooler air to enter the Mediterranean. This transition could bring increased cloudiness, stronger winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures, with some northern regions potentially seeing decreases of up to 12-15°C and the first significant snowfall in mountainous areas like the Stelvio.
