Colosseum, Pantheon and Castello Sforzesco extend evening hours in August
The Italian Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and the Comune di Milano have launched an experimental programme that will keep three major monuments open later during August. Starting on 1 August and running through 31 August, the Colosseum in Rome will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 19:45 to 23:30, the Pantheon will be open daily from 19:00 to 23:00 except on Thursdays, and Milan’s Castello Sforzesco will be open daily from 17:30 to 19:30.
The extensions aim to disperse visitor flows, avoid the hottest part of the day and better match tourists’ and residents’ working hours. Culture minister Alessandro Giuli described the evening openings as a “unique opportunity to encounter two universal testimonies of history and human ingenuity,” while tourism minister Gianmarco Mazzi said the measure responds to the needs of travellers and citizens. In Milan, ticket prices for the Castello Sforzesco are halved for the month, from €10 to €5 for full‑price tickets and from €5 to €2.50 for reduced‑price tickets.
