Italy is facing a severe agricultural and economic crisis driven by extreme heat and prolonged drought. Coldiretti estimates that climate-related damages to the agricultural sector have already exceeded 3 billion euros. Over 60% of the country is facing a water crisis, impacting critical crops such as rice, corn, soy, wheat, olives, and grapes.

The crisis has significantly impacted livestock, with milk production dropping by 20% due to heat stress and forage shortages. In Northern Italy, forage production has declined by an estimated 30% to 40%. Specific regional products are also at risk, including Piedmontese hazelnuts, Calabrian bergamot, and Tuscan white truffles.

While a weather shift is expected to bring cooler air and relief from the current heatwave, meteorologists warn of potential severe thunderstorms and supercells as the cooler air masses interact with the heated atmosphere.

Separately, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the nation's economic standing, noting that while the government has stabilized state bonds, the Superbonus program is projected to cost 174 billion euros, significantly higher than the original budget.
