Italy fights multiple fires at Longola archaeological park and Sardinia forests

Two separate fire incidents have struck Italy in recent days. In Longola, near Pompei, an arson attack on Thursday destroyed the information point, educational labs and greenhouse of the archaeological park, and a second blaze on Friday damaged the playground area, walkway and surrounding scrub. Terramare 3000 president Linda Solino called the attacks “unignorable” and announced a public demonstration on 5 July, inviting prefects, park officials and local municipalities to respond collectively.

Elsewhere on the island of Sardinia, forest fires have erupted across the Oristano and Medio Campidano areas, affecting locations such as Sa Nassa, Nurachivicino, Urasin, Pauli Sirbanu, Castello Sassai and Capoterranella. The regional forestry corps deployed multiple helicopters from Fenosu, Villasalto, San Cosimo and a Super Puma, while two Canadair aircraft arrived from Olbia and Ciampino to bolster the effort.

Both incidents underscore heightened emergency responses to fire outbreaks in Italy.
