Italy fights wildfires in Marche and Friuli regions

A wildfire ignited in a wheat field near Staffolo in the Marche region, quickly spreading to a nearby forest and burning roughly 15 hectares. Strong winds fueled the blaze, which investigators suspect was started by a short‑circuit in local electrical and telephone cables. Firefighters from Jesi, Macerata and Ancona, supported by volunteers from Apiro and a regional helicopter that dropped water continuously, brought the fire under control and are now conducting cleanup and investigations.

On the same day a separate forest fire broke out in the Carso area near Bristie, Sgonico in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, affecting about one hectare of woodland. The incident was reported by the Trieste fire service and tackled by the Duino Aurisina forest station, municipal civil‑protection units, and volunteer firefighters from Trieste and Breg. A regional aerial service helicopter performed approximately 20 water drops, and the fire was quickly contained. Monitoring continues across the Carso, especially after a larger fire in Monrupino that had burned 17 hectares, bringing the total area affected in recent days to around 45 hectares.
