Italy Focuses on Workplace Mental Health: Compensation Claims and Awareness Event

Italian law obliges employers to safeguard the physical and moral integrity of employees under article 2087 of the civil code. Courts have ruled that workers can receive compensation when excessive work rhythms cause severe illnesses such as heart attacks or clinical depression, even without a traditional accident. The legal doctrine emphasizes the employer’s duty to organize tasks and workloads to prevent “super‑work” conditions.

On 13 June, the town of Busto Garolfo hosted the “Play Your Mind” day, an initiative by Manager United APS to break the silence around mental health in the workplace. The event combined sport (padel, beach volley), workshops, and testimonies from managers, psychologists, and athletes, including the national comedy team, an ultramarathon police inspector, and representatives from BCC and Affidea Clinics. Organizers highlighted that mental well‑being is essential for effective leadership and sustainable business performance.
