Italy food recalls: Casera DOP, hummus, and egg whites flagged

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued several food recalls in 2026 due to microbiological contamination risks. Notable alerts include the recall of Casera DOP cheese from Valtellina due to Escherichia coli STEC contamination, and a Lucanian cured meat product due to the presence of Salmonella.

Additionally, recent alerts in October 2026 identified risks in Germinal Bio chickpea hummus and Piacers egg whites sold at Conad supermarkets. These recalls are part of a surveillance system coordinated by the Ministry of Health and integrated into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

Food recalls serve as a consumer protection tool, triggered when laboratory analyses detect pathogens or non-compliance with European Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. When a recall is issued, consumers are advised not to consume the affected products and to return them to the point of sale for a refund.
