Italy fuel prices rise, Sicily leads with highest pump costs

In early July 2026 the average price of self‑service gasoline in Sicily rose to €1.856 per litre and diesel to €1.938, making the island’s fuel more expensive than the national average of €1.852 for gasoline and €1.935 for diesel. On the highway network in Sicily the prices were even higher, with gasoline at €1.940 per litre and diesel surpassing the €2.00 mark at €2.012 per litre.

National data from the Ministry of Enterprise and Made‑in‑Italy (MiMiT) showed that on 8 July the average self‑service gasoline price across Italy reached €1.855 per litre and diesel €1.941. Highway prices were €1.945 for gasoline and €2.023 for diesel. Prices continued to climb despite a modest decline in international oil product prices. Consumer association Codacons warned that “Sicilian consumers cannot continue to bear price hikes that affect daily mobility and the cost of goods and services,” urging tighter monitoring of price formation and stronger controls on the distribution network.
