Italy health reforms: community health centers set for June and Sicily reaches pharma spending pact

Health Minister Orazio Schillaci confirmed that the new Community Health Centers will become operational by 30 June, with general practitioners incorporated into multidisciplinary teams. He said the goal, shared with regions and unions, is to meet the deadline imposed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, describing the centers as a "fundamental presby for modernising our health system".

In Sicily, regional health assessor Marcello Caruso signed a decree redefining prescription‑budget thresholds. The measure will trigger corrective action only for inappropriate prescribing, protecting continuity of care for patients, especially the most fragile. Regional President Renato Schifani praised the outcome as proof that the administration "listens to the territory". The decree will be published in the regional official gazette next week.
