Italy highway incidents cause traffic disruptions on A16 and A14

Multiple highway incidents in Italy have caused significant travel disruptions on Monday, August 17. On the A16 Napoli-Bari motorway, a heavy truck veered off the road near the Avellino Ovest exit. The vehicle, which was carrying empty tomato collection containers, became lodged in the guardrail. Firefighters from Avellino responded to contain a diesel leak caused by the impact. The driver was treated by medical personnel and transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Simultaneously, a truck fire on the A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway necessitated the closure of the stretch between Vasto Sud and Termoli in the direction of Bari. The incident resulted in approximately five kilometers of traffic congestion within the affected area and additional delays near Vasto Nord. Authorities implemented a detour via local roads to manage the flow of traffic toward Molise and Puglia. Emergency services, including firefighters and motorway personnel, worked to extinguish the fire and secure the site during a period of high seasonal tourist traffic.
