Italy holds electronic ID card open days in Rome and Sanremo

The Italian Ministry of the Interior is running open days for the new electronic identity card (CIE) in several municipalities. In Rome, special opening hours are scheduled for Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July at the civil‑registry offices of Municipalities V, VI, VIII and III, as well as at former tourist information points on Piazza delle Cinque Lune, Piazza Sonnino, Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore and Via Petroselli 52. Appointments must be booked online starting at 09:00 on Friday 3 July.

In Sanremo, an extra open‑day session will be held on Saturday 4 July at the Demographic Office on the first floor of the Palafiori building (Corso Garibaldi 1) from 09:00 to 13:00 without prior appointment. Citizens must bring the old paper ID (or a theft/loss report), a health‑card, two recent passport‑style photos, and € 22 in cash. The service also offers the option to register organ‑donation consent and provides duplicate PIN/PUK codes on request. These temporary openings are part of a broader schedule of extra hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 31 July, aimed at replacing paper IDs before they lose validity for travel after 3 August 2026.
