Italy hosts coastal protection events in Calabria and Puglia

Italia Nostra organized a public meeting on June 26 in Catanzaro, Calabria, to present a restoration plan for the Dune di Giovino coastal reserve. The event featured presentations by association members and regional officials on vegetation recovery, botanical research, geological analysis and biodiversity monitoring, followed by a guided walk of the dunes.

On June 28, a coalition of local groups including Pro Loco Martina Franca, Legambiente Puglia and WWF organized a coastal walk in Ostuni, Puglia, to raise awareness of the area's fragile ecosystem and to oppose private tourism developments that could restrict public access. Participants followed a marked trail from Creta Rossa to the Lamasanta beach, highlighting the region’s wetlands and forested areas.

Both initiatives aim to increase public knowledge of coastal habitats and promote community involvement in their preservation.
