Italy hosts peace marches and student memorials for Gaza

In Comiso, Italy, the “Cammino per la Pace” (Walk for Peace) is scheduled for October 10 and 11, 2026. The event commemorates the 45th anniversary of the 1981 protests against the installation of Cruise missiles at the former Vincenzo Magliocco airport, which later became a NATO base. Organized by the “Comiso cantiere per la pace” committee, the program includes a conference on October 10 and a symbolic march on October 11.

A central element of the march is the “Sudario della memoria” (Shroud of Memory), a 70-meter white cloth created by students from the “Giorgio La Pira” Institute in Pozzallo. The cloth features the names of over 18,500 children killed in Gaza since 2023.

In a related development, students and alumni of the “Edoardo Amaldi” high school in Novi Ligure have issued a statement of support for their institution following local and national controversy. The debate arose after the school’s electronic register published information regarding the “Sudario di Gaza” demonstration. The alumni emphasized that the school’s value lies in teaching students to observe, ask questions, and seek answers.
