Italy implements biodiversity and forest management initiatives

In Italy, new initiatives have been launched to support environmental conservation and biodiversity. Under the 2023/2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan, a call for projects has been opened to recover and protect local genetic resources at risk of extinction. The funding, totaling 625,000 euros, is divided into sectors for herbaceous species, woody fruit species, and indigenous animal resources, including cattle and sheep.

Beneficiaries include agricultural entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, and germplasm banks. The program provides 100% support for eligible expenses, with individual project amounts ranging from 50,000 to 125,000 euros depending on the sector.

Additionally, the municipality of Supino has introduced a ten-year Forest Management and Settlement Plan. Developed by forester Alessio Arduini, the plan aims to balance environmental protection with sustainable resource management. Key objectives include forest maintenance, fire prevention, and reducing hydrogeological risks. The administration intends to use this strategic framework to access regional and European funding for ecological transition and to promote forest areas as resources for tourism and environmental development.
