Italian transport sector faces rising diesel and energy costs

The Italian transportation and logistics sectors are facing significant economic pressure due to rising energy and fuel costs. Confartigianato Trasporti has reported that diesel prices increased by 54.3% between February and September, resulting in additional costs of approximately 11,227 euros per truck during that period.

In response to these challenges, industry leaders have called for structural solutions, including more stable compensation tools, the release of funds for vehicle fleet renewal, and a review of European driving and rest regulations. Government officials, including Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini and Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi, have participated in discussions regarding these issues. Rixi announced efforts to secure an additional 80-90 million euros to meet industry demands.

Additionally, the 11th Conftrasporto-Confcommercio Forum is scheduled for October 21 in Rome. The event will address critical sector challenges such as fuel and energy costs, driver shortages, infrastructure deficiencies, and geopolitical tensions affecting international trade routes. The forum will also explore digitalization as a means to reduce logistics costs, noting that widespread digital adoption could potentially save businesses 18 billion euros.
