Italy intensifies migrant detention enforcement and health screening at CPR facilities

A court in Catanzaro upheld the rejection of an international protection request by a foreign national, confirming the decision of the territorial commission in Crotone. The individual was transferred to the Centre for the Permanent Stay for Return (CPR) in Potenza, where he will remain pending deportation.

In Trapani, the Prefecture, the local police, and the regional health authority signed an addendum to strengthen health checks at the CPR in Milo. The protocol, aligned with the EU Migration and Asylum Screening Regulation 2024/1356 effective 12 June 2026, expands assessment of mental‑health fragility and drug‑addiction issues among detainees and ensures coordinated monitoring of illegal entries.

Both actions reflect Italy's tighter management of migrant detention centres, combining legal enforcement with enhanced health‑screening measures.
