Italy issues 500 construction badges for post‑quake rebuilding sites

Around 200 professionals gathered at a conference in Macerata Province to discuss the new electronic construction badge used for post‑earthquake reconstruction in central Italy. Within just over two months of its introduction, about 500 badges have been issued for work at 19 sites, marking the first large‑scale rollout of the tool mandated by Ordinance 216 of 2024.

Prefect Giovanni Signer highlighted the badge’s role in ensuring transparency and preventing criminal infiltration of construction contracts. Senator Guido Castelli, the extraordinary commissioner for reconstruction, emphasized that the system supports legal certainty and safety on what he called “the biggest construction site in Europe.” The badge is intended to make controls more effective, expel firms that ignore regulations, and serve as a model for reconstruction across the country.
