Italy marks World Alzheimer's Day with awareness campaigns and advocacy

Various initiatives across Italy have been launched to mark World Alzheimer's Day, focusing on awareness, caregiver support, and improving healthcare infrastructure for dementia patients.

In Tuscany, the Alzheimer Fest held a community event in Montopoli in Val d’Arno featuring workshops and discussions to combat social isolation. In Arezzo, a flash mob involving 120 purple balloons was organized by the Fossombroni Nursing Home to advocate for increasing RSA bed capacity from 80 to 120.

In Lombardy, a purple bench was inaugurated in Castellanza's Parco Cantoni by Alzheimer Café Accorsi and Cooperativa La Banda to promote public awareness. Additionally, in Martinengo, a daycare center was renovated with a 325,000 euro investment to serve the community. Regional councilor Miriam Cominelli has called for better management of RSA fees and improved access to innovative anti-amyloid therapies.

In the Veneto region, EnEA has launched a series of events through December, including 'Memory Cafés' in Treviso to support families and caregivers. Meanwhile, in Basilicata, the Potenza Local Health Authority (ASP) is hosting information points and community meetings to provide guidance on prevention and diagnosis.
