Italy launches home‑care program in Abruzzo as Calabria raises staffing concerns
In the Abruzzo region’s Marsica area, the “Le Valli della Tecnologia” project has moved into an operational phase, providing home assistance to patients discharged from hospitals in 17 municipalities, including Collelongo, Villavallelonga and San Benedetto dei Marsi. The service employs socio‑health operators to deliver basic care, daily support and condition monitoring, with plans to add tele‑monitoring, telemedicine and digital infrastructure.
In the province of Catanzaro, Calabria, local councilors Antonio Barberio and Ilaria Frustaci criticised the Integrated Home Care (ADI) service, stating that a single socio‑health operator is tasked with covering the entire province and is available only two days a week. They warned that this arrangement threatens continuity of care for the elderly and frail, and called on ASP director Dr. Battistini to clarify the organisation and allocate additional resources.
