Italy launches nationwide medical recruitment competitions for GPs and specialists
The Italian Ministry of Health has published the official call for the 2026‑2029 General Practitioner (MMG) training programme in the Gazzetta Ufficiale. Each of the 20 regions released a separate notice listing available slots, ranging from 10 in Valle d’Aosta to 481 in Lombardy, and detailing application procedures, eligibility criteria and the written exam scheduled for 21 October 2026.
In Calabria, the regional health authority announced new permanent hiring rounds to strengthen the local health system. The selections cover 45 full‑time Director‑Doctor posts in surgical orthopaedics, 102 Director‑Doctor posts in emergency medicine, and 19 Director‑Doctor posts in neurology. Regional councillor Giuseppe Mattiani highlighted the measures as a response to chronic staff shortages and an effort to retain young physicians in the region.
Both initiatives aim to address long‑standing shortages of medical personnel across Italy and to provide stable, contract‑based employment for doctors.
