Italy launches Nautical Institute branch and hosts women‑focused maritime forum
On 20 June, the Accademia Nautica dell’Adriatico took part in the Soroptimist International Italy event in Trieste titled “Le professioni del mare: il punto di vista femminile”. Speakers Paola Catalano, director of courses, and Sophia Cecconi, a former student now serving as a third‑assistant engineer, discussed training pathways, professional skills and the growing role of women in the maritime sector.
In Sant’Agnello, near Naples, the Nautical Institute inaugurated its Italy Branch at the ITS Accademia Marittima Meridionale. The launch gathered institutional representatives, shipowners, and industry experts who addressed the energy transition, digitalisation, cybersecurity and sustainable shipping. The new branch aims to coordinate training, support crew competence on emerging technologies, and represent maritime professionals at the International Maritime Organization.
Both events signal an effort to strengthen Italy’s maritime professional development and promote gender inclusion within the sector.
