Italy launches new research prize and €389,000 innovation funding for regional projects

The Roberto Riccoboni Solidal 2026 prize has been announced by Riccoboni Holding, Solidal for Research and the IRCCS Hospital‑University of Alessandria. The award is split into three cash categories: €15,000 for the best innovative research proposal focused on health and environment, €3,500 to support the publication of a scientific article ready within six months, and €1,500 for the most valuable already‑published article. The competition is open to researchers from the IRCCS AOU AL, ASL AL and the University of Piemonte Orientale, with applications due by 21 October 2026 and winners to be announced during Research Week in November.

The Fondazione Cariverona has allocated €389,850 to five research‑and‑development projects in the Verona area, developed by local companies together with universities and research centres. The initiatives apply artificial intelligence to production lines, micro‑algae for sustainable cosmetics, urban waste‑management optimisation, and the creation of more sustainable food products. President Bruno Giordano stressed the need for research that directly supports industry and addresses rapid technological, environmental and economic changes, highlighting the role of young researchers in turning scientific results into practical solutions.
