Italy launches regional seasonal influenza vaccination campaigns

Multiple Italian regions and local health authorities (ASPs and ASLs) have launched their 2026/2027 seasonal influenza vaccination campaigns. The initiatives, starting in mid-October, aim to protect vulnerable populations, including those over 60, pregnant women, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

In Tuscany, the campaign has been accelerated due to an early supply of inactivated vaccines, allowing those aged 7 to 59 to access vaccinations starting October 21. In Emilia-Romagna, there is a notable increase in vaccinations administered through pharmacies. Other regions, including Marche, Sicily (Siracusa), and Sicily (Trapani), are coordinating widespread rollouts through general practitioners, pediatricians, and local vaccination centers.

In addition to the flu, several regions are integrating vaccinations for COVID-19 and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). For example, Agrigento is focusing on RSV prevention for the elderly and fragile, while Tuscany is offering combined COVID-19 and influenza bookings. In Trapani, nasal sprays are being utilized for children and adolescents to facilitate administration.
