Italy launches regional vaccination campaigns for influenza and RSV
Various Italian regions have initiated their 2026/2027 vaccination campaigns targeting influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Puglia has launched a major campaign with approximately 900,000 doses, including 870,000 influenza vaccines and 21,500 doses of antibodies for newborn RSV immunization. The regional plan utilizes five different vaccine formulations tailored to specific age groups and risk levels, such as high-dose vaccines for those over 80 and nasal sprays for children. Distribution involves family doctors, pediatricians, and community pharmacies.
In Umbria, influenza vaccine adherence has reached 70.5%, nearing the ministerial target of 75%. However, officials noted lower uptake for pneumococcal and Herpes Zoster vaccines. Local health initiatives in Todi aim to combat misinformation and promote awareness among the elderly population.
Other regional rollouts include Asl 5 in Oristano, which has opened bookings for influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcal, and Herpes Zoster vaccines, and Asl Vco, which is beginning reservations for its territorial sites in Domodossola, Verbania, and Omegna. In Caltanissetta, medical associations are urging citizens to vaccinate to protect vulnerable populations and reduce the economic burden on the healthcare system.
