Italy launches 2026-2027 seasonal influenza vaccination campaign
Italy has launched its 2026-2027 seasonal influenza vaccination campaign across various regions, including Friuli Venezia Giulia, Romagna, Marche, and Sicily. Following Ministry of Health guidelines, the campaign aims to protect vulnerable populations and reduce the burden on healthcare facilities.
Free vaccinations are primarily offered to individuals aged 60 and over, pregnant women, children between 6 months and 6 years, and people with chronic conditions. Other priority groups include healthcare workers, residents of long-term care facilities, and individuals in contact with high-risk subjects. In some regions, such as Lombardy, the vaccine is being offered more broadly to the general population.
In addition to influenza, there is a significant focus on Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) prevention. New monoclonal antibody treatments, such as Nirsevimab and clesrovimab, are being integrated into regional plans to protect infants and newborns. Medical experts are also advocating for the inclusion of RSV and strengthened HPV prevention in the upcoming 2027-2031 National Immunization Plan to address regional inequalities in vaccine access.
