Italy law enforcement dismantles marijuana cultivation operations
In separate law enforcement actions in Italy, authorities have dismantled organized marijuana cultivation operations.
In Gragnano, the Court of Cassation has finalized a sentence for Antonio Di Martino, the nephew of a local crime boss. Di Martino was sentenced to three years in prison and a 2,400 euro fine for his involvement in a marijuana plantation discovered in an abandoned farmhouse on Monte Faito in the summer of 2024. The operation also involved the theft of approximately 70,000 euros worth of public water and electricity.
In Ragusa, Carabinieri arrested a 44-year-old man after discovering a sophisticated domestic greenhouse. The cultivation was spread across several locations within a condominium, including the suspect's apartment, a second residential unit, and the building's roof and attic. Police seized 72 marijuana plants along with professional equipment such as UV lamps, irrigation systems, humidifiers, and specialized cultivation manuals.
