Italy leads agricultural modernization and organic farming initiatives in Algeria
Italy is leading a multi-faceted initiative to modernize the Algerian agricultural sector through technological expertise and institutional support. A mission of thirteen Italian companies specializing in agricultural technology recently presented solutions in Algiers focused on mechanization, digitalization, and advanced irrigation systems to address challenges such as climate change and water resource management.
In a separate but related development, Italy is spearheading a one-million-euro European Union-funded project aimed at establishing organic farming standards and quality certification in Algeria. This two-year initiative, involving France as a partner, focuses on creating a national system for organic agriculture and developing the 'Label Agricole de Qualite' (Laq) to recognize high-quality products. The project will establish regulatory frameworks, control procedures, and training for personnel, while also developing specific guidelines for five pilot production chains.
