Italy-Algeria agricultural cooperation

Overview

Italy is spearheading efforts to modernize the Algerian agricultural sector through technological cooperation and institutional support. An initial mission involving a delegation of Italian companies visited Algiers to present solutions in mechanization, digitalization, smart irrigation, and storage infrastructure to address climate change and water management challenges.

Building on these technological efforts, Italy is also leading a one-million-euro European Union-funded project in partnership with France. This initiative aims to establish organic farming standards and quality certification in Algeria, including the development of the ‘Label Agricole de Qualite’ (Laq) to recognize high-quality products and create regulatory frameworks for organic agriculture.
