Italy: Man imprisoned for domestic violence against wife and daughter

A 51-year-old man of Indian origin has been sent to prison following a definitive sentence for the long-term abuse of his wife and daughter in Castelnovo Sotto, Italy. The man was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison, along with a 5-year ban from holding public office.

Investigations by the Carabinieri revealed that between July 2018 and April 2023, the man subjected both women to physical and verbal violence. He frequently accused his wife of infidelity and assaulted his daughter because he wanted a male child. The violence included throwing objects such as chairs and rolling pins at the victims.

In one severe incident in April 2023, the man threatened his wife with a knife. While attempting to defend herself, the wife sustained serious injuries to her hand. During the same confrontation, the daughter was pushed against a refrigerator and struck. Both victims eventually escaped to a protected facility and sought help.
