Italy Mandates Takata Airbag Recall Completion Before Vehicle Inspection

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure has introduced new inspection procedures requiring examiners to verify, via the vehicle identification number (VIN), whether a car is subject to the ongoing Takata airbag recall. If a vehicle is flagged and the recall repair has not been performed, the inspection may be marked as failed.

In severe cases classified as "Stop Drive," the vehicle is issued a "Repeat – Suspended from circulation" result and may only be driven to an authorized service center for the mandatory free airbag replacement. Less critical cases receive a "Repeat" outcome, obliging owners to complete the recall before a subsequent inspection can be passed.
