Italy marks 800 years of Saint Francis with art and prayer

Commemorations for the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi are taking place across Italy through religious and artistic events.

In Rome, the MAXXI museum is hosting the exhibition ‘Creature and Creators: Saint Francis and Contemporary Art,’ curated by Beatrice Buscaroli. The collection features diverse works from artists such as Maria Lai, Bertozzi & Casoni, Alberto Burri, and Lucio Manzoni, interpreting the saint's legacy through various contemporary styles.

In Milan, the Service for Liturgical Pastoral Care has organized a morning of prayer, meditation, and song for musical animators. Scheduled for September 26 at the parish of San Giovanni Battista alla Creta, the event includes choral rehearsals and meditations focused on the spiritual inspiration of Saint Francis.
