Saint Francis of Assisi 800th anniversary triggers cultural events across Italy

Various cultural, religious, and heritage initiatives are being held across Italy to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

In Assisi, Fondazione Terna has completed a project to restore and digitize 12 historical parchments from the Sacred Convent archives, preserving documents essential to the history of the Franciscan Order. Additionally, thousands of volunteers gathered for a national pilgrimage in Assisi to celebrate the jubilee through service and prayer.

Cultural programs are widespread, including the Festival Francescano in Bologna, which features art, literature, and music, and a sacred music concert in Forlì featuring the premiere of the ‘Missa Sancti Francisci’. Local communities are also hosting events, such as theatrical performances in Solaro and religious processions in Stalettì and Savona.

In the realm of heritage preservation, the Bologna metropolitan area is participating in the European Heritage Days, focusing on the theme of protecting and renewing cultural assets. Meanwhile, the parish in Galliate has launched a solidarity fund to support the maintenance of its historical and artistic heritage and social initiatives.
