Italy moves ahead with major metro extensions in Rome and Milan

The Rome city government has released the feasibility study for the Metro B extension eastward to Setteville in Guidonia. The selected 8.33‑km route will add six new stations—San Basilio, Torraccia, Casal Monastero, Tecnopolo, Settecamini and Setteville—requiring six additional trains to reach Casal Monastero and eleven to serve the full line. The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first segment up to Casal Monastero using an existing design.

Separately, Italy’s Court of Auditors has approved the final funding for the Milan Metro M5 extension to Monza, confirming a total investment of €1.884 billion. The plan adds eleven new stations between Milan and Monza, aiming to reduce car traffic, cut travel times for commuters and lower emissions in the Milan‑Monza metropolitan area. The decree awaits formal publication in the Official Gazette before construction can begin.
