Italy offers GPL retrofit bonuses for vehicle conversions

Under the Automotive Decree, the Italian government has implemented the GPL retrofit bonus to encourage the conversion of existing vehicles to more sustainable fuels. As of July 29, the Invitalia platform is active, allowing installers to pre-book the incentive, which is applied directly as a discount on the invoice.

The bonus provides 400 euros for the purchase and installation of a new, certified GPL system. For those choosing methane, the contribution increases to 800 euros. This measure is intended to reduce consumption and emissions.

To qualify, the vehicle must be an M1 category passenger car with an environmental class of Euro 3 or higher. The vehicle must not already be powered by GPL, methane, or dual-fuel systems, and must not have previously utilized the Ecobonus. The incentive is available to both individuals and legal entities, excluding businesses that trade in M1 category vehicles.
