Italy pension requirements to change in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, pension requirements in Italy will change due to adjustments based on increased life expectancy. The age for old-age pensions will rise from 67 to 67 years and one month, provided the individual has at least 20 years of contributions.

Early retirement requirements will also see adjustments: for men, the contribution requirement moves from 42 years and 10 months to 42 years and 11 months, while for women, it moves from 41 years and 10 months to 41 years and 11 months.

Regarding pension amounts, January 2027 payments are expected to see a higher inflation-based revaluation compared to 2026. Estimates suggest a higher increase following Istat data showing inflation rising to 4.2%.

Several existing exit channels are expiring or limited. Quota 103 is no longer available for those who did not meet requirements by the end of 2025, and the 'Opzione donna' is restricted to those who met requirements by the end of 2024. The 'Ape sociale' program is currently in effect until December 31, 2026, and its continuation for 2027 depends on upcoming budget legislation.
